PRICELess Extension isn’t that $$$priceless. Bloated malware/virus

Truth is no one can be trusted these days with so many programs to choose from and crud on the internet. I  once had a saying back in the day “I reformat 10 times a day”.  Questioned is this a joke? Nope.. Sh$# happens when you download crap programs and test. It is useful when you have more than one system in the house. I was a tad anal when it came to loading a system up with programs + updates in sequence. So back into wiping the drive clean and restart all over again.

In my haste to add out of date programs to my just recent fresh install i started downloading new programs. Coming from a guy who hasn’t used a malware or antivirus program in over 7 years realizing some sites i used to trust for prorgams, CNET and others have gone to the toilet. Free programs come with bloated crap. Check boxes that add on more bunk programs/ ask/bing toolbars etc. On one the download + installs, realized immediately something was different when on Google. I had these popups all over my pages. It was taxing the system causing crashing.  Only way I can explain it is like this. Take a large bag of pepper and tear it open over thick shag carpet. Then try and pick each particle out by tweezers. Every time you pick 10 pieces out imagine 20 more fall back in the area you just were. It has been awhile since updated on the programs available today due my work up north.

After 4 hours of researching and reading I have come to many conclusions. You don’t need to buy antivirus and malware programs. Lots avail for free but just one of these programs is not enough these days.

It really depends on where you travel online some websites are front pages to the back door of hell.

What is PRICELess?

PRICELess is advertised as a program that displays coupons for sites you are visiting and competitive prices when you are viewing product pages at sites like Amazon. Though this may sound like a useful service, the PRICELess program can be intrusive and will display ads whether you want them to or not.
The PRICELess adware infection is designed specifically to make money. It generates web traffic, collects sales leads for other dubious sites, and will display advertisements and sponsored links within your web browser.

When installed, the PRICELess browser extension will display advertising banners, pop-up advertisements and in-text ads, stating that they are brought to you by “PRICELess”.
These ads are aimed to promote the installation of additional questionable content including web browser toolbars, optimization utilities and other products, all so the PRICELess publisher can generate pay-per-click revenue.
When infected with PRICELess the common symptoms include:

  • Advertising banners are injected with the web pages that you are visiting.
  • Random web page text is turned into hyperlinks.
  • Browser popups appear which recommend fake updates or other software.
  • Other unwanted adware programs might get installed without the user’s knowledge.

How did got PRICELess on my computer?

PRICELess is an adware program that is commonly bundled with other free programs that you download off of the Internet.
Unfortunately, some free downloads do not adequately disclose that other software will also be installed and you may find that you have installed PRICELess without your knowledge. PRICELess is typically added when you install another free software that had bundled into their installation this adware program. Most commonly PRICELess is bundled within the installers from Cnet, Softonic or other similar custom third-party installers.

You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this PRICELess adware. Be very careful what you agree to install.
Always opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you never wanted to download and install in the first place.
It goes without saying that you should not install software that you don’t trust.

So read every thread on how to manualy remove this PRICELess extension. Seems my system dug its roots deep + as soon as i started to mess with it everything went south. This is a lesson to do imaging and backups/ WD my cloud. And a day later back up and running again with another fresh install on the MSI GT780DXR.

So far been hit with 3 viruses in last 10 years coming from someone who doesn’t use anti virus. This has changed me using CCleaner/ Malwarebytes + Hitmanpro, Running the 3 of these on the PC will clean things up clear. Using Avast free AV + adblock extensions Unchecky (download /installers) It helps malware infecting All these programs are free very effective and light to run. Another program close to unchecky is Ninite .

Ninite installs all the programs and updates at once.

  • start working as soon as you run it
  • not bother you with any choices or options
  • install apps in their default location
  • say no to toolbars or extra junk
  • install 64-bit apps on 64-bit machines
  • install apps in your PC’s language or one you choose
  • do all its work in the background
  • install the latest stable version of an app
  • skip up-to-date apps
  • skip any reboot requests from installers
  • use your proxy settings from Internet Explorer
  • download apps from each publisher’s official site
  • verify digital signatures or hashes before running anything
